U.S. Navy Memorial Announces Both Live Lone Sailor Awards Dinner and Online Program for 2022

The U.S. Navy Memorial will host the 2022 Lone Sailor Awards Dinner at the National Building Museum in Washington, DC, on September 22, 2022.

The Lone Sailor Awards Dinner was cancelled in 2020 and 2021 to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Instead, the Navy Memorial produced an online program in 2020 and 2021 that recognized the honorees.

Based on the tremendous success of the online program in bringing the mission of the Navy Memorial to a greater audience and the public’s tremendous support, the Navy Memorial will again produce a Lone Sailor Awards Program in 2022, in addition to the Lone Sailor Awards Dinner. The Program will air on September 27, 2022.

The Naval Heritage Award and Lone Sailor Awards are presented at the Lone Sailor Awards Dinner. The Lone Sailor Award is given to Sea Service veterans who have excelled with distinction in their respective careers during or after their service. The Naval Heritage Award is presented to distinguished Americans who have significantly supported the nation's Sea Services, and whose lives and career exemplify the core value of Honor, Courage and Commitment.

"We are very excited to return to the tradition of hosting the Lone Sailor Awards Dinner in 2022 as it provides an opportunity to Honor, Recognize and Celebrate the men and women of the sea services," said Rear Admiral Frank Thorp IV, USN (Ret.), President & CEO of the U.S. Navy Memorial. "Because of the tremendous response to the Program the last two years, we will now produce the Program annually in addition to hosting the Dinner."

The awardees that will be recognized at the 2022 Lone Sailor Award Dinner and 2022 Lone Sailor Awards Program will be announced in the weeks ahead.
