lone sailor statue in long beach, california

A replica of The Lone Sailor© was dedicated in Long Beach on December 11, 2004. The statue resides in Bluff Park at Ocean Boulevard and Paloma Avenue, overlooking Long Beach Harbor. The Long Beach statue honors all of the men and women who served in the Navy and it pays tribute to all military personnel who were brought across the country by each of the military branches to make Long Beach their home.

A Lone Sailor Memorial Committee was established in Long Beach to raise funds for the statue and surrounding site. The committee was made up of Navy veterans, local individuals and organizations like the non-profit Partners of Parks (which serves Long Beach's public parks, beaches and recreational facilities), and the local Fleet Reserve Association Branch 43. The committee worked on the statue project for nearly two years. In addition to raising the funds necessary for statue placement and delivery, the committee organized a Brick Project to raise funds for the surrounding memorial site.
