Lone Sailor statue in baton rouge, louisiana

One of the U.S. Navy Memorial Foundation's missions is to educate the public about our nation's great maritime legacy and to remind them that the legacy still lives on through the generations of Sea Service men and women today. Our Statue Outreach Program enables us to fulfill that mission by reaching out to communities across America whose ties to the Sea Services remain strong and whose veterans and service members want to recall their commitment to the Sea Services and their service to America.

The Navy Memorial President and CEO RADM Edward K. Walker, Jr., SC, USN (Ret.) and the Board of Directors of the United States Navy Memorial Foundation were proud to announce in February 2010 their partnership with Melvin L. "Kip" Holden Mayor-President of the City of Baton Rouge for the placement of their twelfth Lone Sailor Statue at the USS Kidd Veterans Memorial in Baton Rogue for display prior to its final outdoor installation in the Baton Rogue River Center adjacent to the USS Kidd Veterans Memorial. The future outdoor site will be designed by Baton Rogue Post Architects in coordination with the Navy Memorial's Statue Outreach Coordinator. Until such time this twelfth, bronze Lone Sailor Statue will be in the capable hands of Mr. Maury Drummond, Executive Director, USS Kidd Veterans Memorial.
