What is the National Chief’s Mess?

The mission of the National Chief’s Mess is to Connect Active-Duty, Reserve, or Retired Navy and Coast Guard Chiefs in a collaborative environment; to Promote professional networking and social interactions; to create Opportunity for maintaining a sense of purpose and belonging; and to Support each other and the ideals of "Once a Chief, always a Chief."

The Delbert D. Black National Chief’s Mess is a communication hub for Chiefs to connect through shared experiences, mentorship, and exclusive access to resources that will help them excel in both career and life.

Connect, Promote, Opportunity & Support

The National Chief’s Mess will provide a singular space for Chiefs to connect with each other from a mobile device or personal computer.

Chiefs will have a central location to share information, connect with other Chiefs, and be confident that their information comes from a trusted source.


Members will have access to a calendar of events across the world by community or region, in addition to programs produced by the National Chief’s Mess. 

The Exhibit inside the Delbert D. Black National Chief’s Mess will be available virtually for the first time, highlighting the 130-year history and significance of the Navy Chief’s role.  


The National Chief’s Mess provides opportunities for fellowship, purpose, and belonging during their career and continuing long after retirement. 

Mentorship, community boards, job postings, and a directory of Chief-owned businesses are some of the unique opportunities offered through this dynamic platform.


The National Chief’s Mess will have interactive resources to support both active and retired Chiefs succeed in their careers and lives. 

This includes a library of information and blog posts by trusted experts, direct partnerships with veteran service organizations, and materials to assist with career and transition.
