Commander William M. Newell, SC, USN (Ret.)

Commander Mike Newell is a 1975 graduate of the University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Management.  He was commissioned a Surface Warfare Officer from the NROTC Program and transferred to the Supply Corps in 1979.  He served on several ships in the Pacific Fleet and at shore establishments throughout the United States.  He retired from the Navy in 1995 after serving as Military Professor at the National Defense University, Washington, DC.

Following his Navy career, Mike worked in senior positions at General Dynamics Bath Iron Works, The Boeing Company, Lockheed Martin Corporation, and Finmeccanica’s AgustaWestlandBell, LLC and OTO Melara, SpA.  He served 8 years as a committee chair on the Secretary of the Navy’s Navy/Marine Corps Retiree Council, and previously as a member of the board of directors of the University of Minnesota Alumni Association and the National Defense University Foundation. He is a recipient of the Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff Distinguished Public Service Award and holds advanced degrees from the University of Southern California and The George Washington University.
